After Irma
Hurricane Irma packed quite a punch. Marco Island, the Keys, and Everglades City saw the brunt of her wrath and storm surge. The Enclave had non of the storm surge as predicted. The building did well. We lost part of the tennis fence, a roof vent and a few owners had hopper windows blow open. We had wind-driven rain blow up the vents into the fitness bathrooms and garage hall yet we were able to get the carpet dry. The staff worked hard to mitigate any water intrusion as best could be done with no electricity.
Many of our neighbors had much worse damage, and loss of landscaping. In the commons, we had numerous Ficus trees fall, but many were salvageable. Blue worked tirelessly yesterday and today to prop up what could be and remove what could not be saved. Amazingly all trees that fell in the Commons coming into the Enclave did not fall across the road. As you watch the video below (no laughing at my poor photography skills) you will get the idea of the damage and that many buildings along the boulevard were blocked in until crews could come to remove the trees.
It was certainly a challenging week; fire alarms at 4 a.m, no electricity and 90+ degree heat, generator fuel running low, the only place to get a cell phone signal was by the tennis courts, fuel for the employees to get to and from work was scarce until Friday. We were able to run an elevator sparingly Saturday to Monday. The elevators are very susceptible to heat and will malfunction. We were very glad when the electricity came on Monday and the air conditioner in the elevator machine room was up and running! The staff climbed many stairs while the elevators were down to check units, empty refrigerators, etc. They are working on getting everything cleaned up and back in shape. Good news is that we had to cancel our window cleaning just before the storm so we were first to be on the schedule and we have had our windows cleaned!
Some of the staff still have no power, and we are hoping it comes on soon. Thank you all for your encouragement and patience this past week. Irma was certainly an eye opener as to the power and damage a hurricane can bring. We, as staff, will reassess our week and improve anywhere we can.
See you all soon!
